You count
Every mistake
Though you know
You can’t change much
And your heart
Learned the lesson
By confessing
To your mind

You are the element
Of evidence
The malevolence
Of sentiment

I barely recognize you
When you wake up
In the morning
As if something changed you
And estranged you
Every night

Later you fight
Because it hurts too much
You only change when the pain
Of staying the same
Haunts you till you take
That sober step in the morning

You dwell
On the past
Though you know
That life burns steadfast
And your mind
Remembered the lesson
By eating you up
The whole night

You are the element
Of imminence
The testament
Of impediment
